ZURICH – Students in the Swiss city of Basel faked positive Covid-19 results to skip school, which resulted in the entire class being quarantined and now disciplinary action against the perpetrators after the joke was discovered.
Three students from Basler Kirschgarten High School falsified SMS messages from the Swiss Covid-19 app for contact tracking, reported the Swiss newspaper Blick.
This forced about 25 classmates to be locked in their homes for about 10 days. Shortly before the spring break in March, several teachers were also affected by the incident.

“This is not just a childish prank, but a serious incident,” said Simon Thiriet, spokesman for the Basel education department, opposite Blick.
The school plans to bring criminal charges for forgery of “health related documents” but does not plan to expel them. Thiriet said the students are in “an awkward position” due to the pandemic, but that doesn’t excuse the threesome’s stunt.
