Good Morning UK presenter Susanna Reid opened the show this morning with an on-screen statement of the end of her partnership with Piers Morgan.
Susanna said “the show will go on” after Morgan quit last night – ending a five-year relationship between the two.
She said, “Now Piers and I disagree on a lot of things, and that dynamic was one of the many things that viewers loved about the program.
“He is without a doubt an outspoken, challenging, sensitive and disruptive broadcaster.
“He has a lot of critics and he has a lot of fans.
“You will know that I disagreed with him about Meghan’s interview. He himself made his comments about her sanity clear on the show yesterday.
“There are a lot of votes at GMB and everyone has the floor, but now Piers has decided to leave the program.
“Some of you may cheer and others will boo. He has been my presentation partner Monday through Wednesday for more than five years. And during Brexit and the pandemic and many problems, he was a voice for many of you and a voice that many have.” scolded against it.
“It will be very different for sure, but the shows go on and so on.”
ITV announced that the presenter and journalist would be leaving the newscast on Tuesday.
The move came after storming off the set of the show earlier in the day after a heated discussion with colleague Alex Beresford over the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s television interview with Oprah Winfrey.
A statement released Tuesday by ITV said: “Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided that now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain.
“ITV accepted this decision and nothing else to add.”
Following the announcement, Morgan tweeted, “I am thinking of my late, great manager, John Ferriter, tonight.
“He would have told me to do exactly the same thing.”
Ranvir Singh, who was scheduled to be on the show alongside Piers this morning and to co-host with Reid, said, “It’s a strange morning for all of us here, but the decision has been made.”
GMB went on to have further discussions about Harry and Meghan’s interview with Oprah.
Susanna and Ranvir focused on the conflict between Meghan’s pursuit of privacy and her decision to talk to Oprah about her life for three hours.
