The 43 places in England where Covid infection rates are rising

Coronavirus infection rates are rising in 43 areas in England.

Out of 315 local authorities, 267 saw a week-to-week decrease, while five remained the same.

But the 43 is a worrying reminder that the virus is still a long way from being completely under control. the mirror online reports.

Corby in Northamptonshire continues to have the highest rate in England. In the seven days ending February 18, 238 new cases were recorded – that’s 329.6 cases per 100,000 people.

That’s a slight decrease from 347.6 cases per 100,000 people in the seven days ending February 11.

Middlesbrough has the second highest rate of 402 new cases from 316.4 to 285.1.

Peterborough is in third place with 546 new cases, from 276.9 to 270.0.

Of the 43 areas that are increasing from week to week, the top five are:

  • Rutland (from 182.8 to 237.9)
  • Craven (43.8 to 80.5)
  • Brentwood (83.1 to 118.1)
  • Tamworth (203.4 to 236.0)
  • Malvern Hills (104.2 to 136.0)

Sir Patrick Vallance has warned that if the UK reopens too soon after the lockdown, there could be a major “resurgence” in some cases.

“The sooner you open everything, the higher the risk of a major resurgence,” he said. “The slower you do it, the better.

“And most importantly, if you want to understand what you’re doing because we don’t know exactly how each action will work, take steps with enough time between them for you to measure data.

“And that probably means you should allow about four or five weeks between each step – four weeks to measure the impact of the step you were taking, and then a week so people can actually prepare to do what it happened.”

Coronavirus infection rates in your area

These are the weekly numbers for each area in England, with the worst hit at the top.

The figures show: rate of new cases in the seven days leading up to February 18 and number (in brackets) of new cases in this period; It then shows the number of new cases in the seven days up to February 11 and the number (in brackets) of new cases recorded during that period.

The bold have seen their rate go up.
