The Big Issue launches appeal to support its vendors

The Big Issue has launched a call to the public to help its providers as they face persistent Covid-19 restrictions, severe weather warnings and predictions of widespread absenteeism in the workplace.

Lord Bird, who founded the magazine, said “challenging times” are ahead for the organization and its 1,800-strong supplier network.

He said: “January is always a difficult time but with ongoing restrictions meaning many people are still working from home, along with warnings from the government that we may see up to a quarter of the workers due high Covid values are unemployed. “In the population, our providers urgently need support.”

Lord Bird urged the public to purchase the magazine from a local supplier, subscribe to it, or donate to the magazine’s winter appeal.

He added, “Big issue sellers cannot work from home and face a very harsh and unsafe winter in the face of severe weather warnings.”
