The most-stolen car models in the UK, according to DVLA

The DVLA revealed the most common stolen cars in 2021 – and it seems a certain make and model are high on the list.

Ford Fiestas top the list of the most commonly stolen cars, and Range Rovers are also in the top three.

And as more Britons turn to EVs, Mitsubishi Outlands also tops a separate list of what is known as the most commonly stolen EVs. Birmingham Live Reports.

As of November 30, the DVLA had reported a total of 43,603 vehicles as stolen, according to the car leasing comparison website LeaseLoco, which had requested the data as part of a freedom of information request.

This is a car that is stolen somewhere in the UK every 11 minutes.

Experts predict that the number of vehicles trapped in 2021 is likely to exceed the 46,876 registered levels in 2020, but will be significantly fewer than the 58,642 stolen in 2019 before the pandemic.

DVLA data shows the Ford Fiesta Zetec (418) is the most frequently stolen car in 2021. The Zetec turbo model (204) also appears at number 8 on the list. Seven of the eight most commonly stolen cars are fiestas.

John Wilmot, CEO of LeaseLoco, said the numbers show how important it is for people to take extra precautions to lock their car safely.

He said: “The Ford Fiesta may be on the verge of losing its best-selling car title in the UK, but it still retains the unenviable title of the UK’s most stolen car.

“While the Range Rover Sport, one of the most popular luxury SUVs on the market, has been targeted by sophisticated criminal gangs who have the knowledge and keyless technology to gain entry.”

He added that the results should not be a reason for car owners not to buy these vehicles just because they appear on the list.

He said, “If you take the right precautions, you can avoid falling victim to car thieves – and that goes for every car owner.

“Always make sure your car is locked before you go out and check that it is locked at night. Think about improving your car’s safety. This could include installing an alarm, an immobilizer and a location system.

“Think of another level of security in the form of a steering lock that also acts as an effective visual deterrent.

“And make sure you keep your vehicle keys safe; keep them out of sight of windows and doors, don’t run your car with the keys in the ignition, and consider using a signal blocking key pouch to.” Block radio signals from the keyless device. ” Access system. “
