The Queen pulls out of visit to major Cop26 climate change summit 'following advice to rest'

The Queen has withdrawn from hosting a grand reception at the Cop26 climate summit, Buckingham Palace confirmed.

The 95-year-old monarch was supposed to be on Monday the 1st.

A palace spokesman said the queen only assumed light duties after being advised to rest.

A palace spokesman said: “Her Majesty has regrettably decided that she will no longer travel to Glasgow to attend the Cop26 evening reception on Monday 1st November.

“Her Majesty is disappointed not to attend the reception, but will broadcast a speech to the assembled delegates via recorded video message.”

The Queen underwent preliminary tests in hospital on October 20 during her first night in a medical facility in eight years. She has rested after medical advice to cancel her two-day trip to Northern Ireland.

But she returned to work Tuesday and conducted virtual audiences from Windsor Castle – her first official engagement in seven days since she was ordered to do so.
