Third of criminal convictions for women are for not having TV Licence

Almost a third of all women’s criminal convictions in 2019 were due to their lack of a TV license.

Justice Department figures show that unlicensed women are ten times more likely to be caught unlicensed than men The mirror.

In 2019, there were 114,000 successful law enforcements for evading a television license – and 74 percent of those convicted were women.

These 84,000 TV license fraud violations account for 30 percent of all convictions of women in 2019.

For men it was only four percent.

Kate Paradine, executive director of Women in Prison, insisted, “Debt issues shouldn’t be criminalized.

“Even if you embrace all beliefs and look at women in prison, the majority are committed to crimes at a very low level.”

Only 1% of the nearly 4,000 women currently behind bars are there for violent acts.
