Thug gets 25 years in jail for attempted murder of baby

An evil thug has been sentenced to 25 and a half years in prison for adding prescription medication to a newborn baby’s milk bottle after Googling how to poison a baby.

Jamar Bailey, 21, was arrested after the three-week-old girl was hospitalized on June 27 last year after being listless and unresponsive.

A urine test found sodium valproate, a drug used to treat epilepsy and bipolar disorder that could potentially have been fatal to the young child.

Detectives found Bailey was taking anti-seizure medication and a search of his property found a prescription for Epilim Chrono that had sodium valproate in his name.

He was arrested on suspicion of willfully harming a child, other items were confiscated, and toxicological tests were carried out.

Officials found evidence of the drug in the baby’s milk bottle and searched “how to poison a baby” and “how to kill a newborn baby” on his cell phone.

The toddler survived her ordeal and police said she was “protected and thriving,” although it will not be known if it will have any lasting effects until she is older.

Bailey, of Winson Green, Birmingham, admitted attempted murder in June and was jailed in Birmingham Crown Court yesterday (October 25).

Detective Sergeant Kirsty Wilson of the West Midlands Police Public Protection Unit said, “The little girl is so lucky to be alive and we are delighted that she is doing so well.

“Bailey’s actions were willful and could easily have resulted in her death.

“Our investigation was complex and relied on medical evidence and the support of partner agencies, so we are pleased that justice has been done.”

Bailey must serve two-thirds of his sentence before applying for parole.
