A toddler who was seriously injured by a falling roof tile in a hotel accident in Mallorca has died in hospital.
Sources from the island’s Son Espases Hospital confirmed that the 14-month-old girl lost her battle for life in the early hours of the morning.
She suffered severe head injuries in the horror accident yesterday at noon and was admitted to a pediatric intensive care unit.
The little girl’s parents are said to have taken refuge with her under an entrance porch of the hotel during a heavy rain shower when the heavy tile fell on them.
She was stabilized on the scene before being admitted to the island’s Son Espases Hospital.
The hotel where the horror accident occurred around noon yesterday was identified as the Green Garden Aparthotel in Cala Rajada on Mallorca’s east coast.
A source at Son Espases Hospital previously said “the toddler is very serious” after sustaining serious head injuries.
The little girl who was on vacation with her family is said to be Dutch.
Civil Guard officers on the island of Spain are investigating and will report to a local judge who will be responsible for coordinating the investigation.
Local reports said the tile was said to have peeled off because of the heavy rain.
It remains unclear whether the affected family stayed at the hotel or simply stopped as they passed to protect themselves from the rain.
