Tom Brady, Tiger Woods, Peyton Manning, Phil Mickelson: Who is the best trash talker?

Tiger Woods and Peyton Manning will not be joining Phil Mickelson and Tom Brady’s team on the golf course for a few more weeks.

But talking about waste has already started.

The two golf greats and the two NFL legends joined sports leader Ernie Johnson on Thursday for a teleconference to promote “The Match: Champions for Charity”, a round airing May 24 on Medalist’s TNT, TBS, TruTV and HLN Golf Club in Hobe Sound, Fla.

The zingers started flying almost immediately, with some landing on the target and a few falling flat.

The four men are among the best of all time to practice their respective sports. But how do they deliver verbal injections?

Here’s how they were in that department during Thursday’s chat.

4. Phil Mickelson

Both golfers relied heavily on props. Mickelson appeared for a framed photo in which he presented Woods’ green coat after the 2006 Masters. He was also armed with the championship belt he received after defeating Woods two years ago during The Match: Tiger vs. Phil in Las Vegas.

“Tiger is quite familiar with this, of course, when you put the jacket around me, it fitted perfectly, thank you. And then this is the trophy for the competition – I don’t really know, Tiger, if you know what this looks like See, “said Mickelson.” You might have caught a glimpse, but that’s what the trophy actually looks like if you won. “

And that’s pretty much all Lefty had. It was funny enough, but Woods got it with his comeback.

3. Tom Brady

The former New England quarterback and current Tampa Bay fired the opening shot last month by posting this image to Instagram.

That was pretty good. And so were his one-liners Thursday, including one that referred to Manning’s father, Archie, and his alleged influence on where Peyton’s brother Eli played in the NFL.

“I actually thought I was going to be Tiger’s partner, but then Peyton’s dad called and the teams changed,” said Brady.

It was a great line and he had more. The only problem was Brady’s clumsy delivery. His punchlines were funny, but it took him a while to realize they were actually punchlines.

Also, he didn’t do himself a single job in the trash rankings by using some of his best material to put himself down.

“I’ve studied a lot of film in the past few weeks and filmed many rounds of Peyton, so I feel like I have at least an edge on that,” said Brady, referring to the Patriots’ Spygate scandal.

2. Tiger Woods

After Mickelson finished talking to him, Woods nodded and said, “Got it.”

Really? Is that all you have?

“Wait a minute,” Woods added before reaching out of the camera.

“I’ve just come out of an ice bath and I’m a little chilly,” added the reigning Masters champion, wrapping himself in his own green jacket.

Very well played.

1. Peyton Manning

The retired quarterback from Indianapolis Colts and Denver Broncos delivered Grade A material in its signature mark, and the results were trash talk gold. He exaggerated a recent incident with Brady for its comic effect.

“The tournament was supposed to take place in Florida after Tom B&E was arrested,” Manning said of Brady, who was not actually arrested for burglary or anything after entering the wrong home. “He couldn’t leave the state with the ankle monitor. So it had to be in Florida. Tiger and I talked to the Sheriff in Tampa and he’s allowed to go to Palm Beach to play.”

Manning was on the right track and brought up Brady’s jump to the Buccaneers after two decades with the Patriots.

“I would have liked to have had this tournament in a place where they don’t like Tom – Indianapolis, Denver, Boston after he just betrayed them and broke their hearts,” said Manning. “So Palm Beach is the best we can probably do.”

So we’ll see how it goes on the track, but Manning and Woods enter the competition as the smack talk champions.
