Tragedy as toddler dies after being found in paddling pool

A toddler tragically died after being found unresponsive in a Derbyshire paddling pool.

The 23-month-old boy was found unresponsive to an address in Nottingham Road, Somercotes around 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Derbyshire police said.

The boy was rushed to the Royal Derby Hospital but died despite the best efforts of the medical staff, reported Derbyshire Live.

In a statement, the force said: “Officials were called to report that a 23-month-old boy was killed in a paddling pool on Nottingham Road, Somercotes, on Jan.

“The boy was taken to the Royal Derby Hospital, but unfortunately, despite the best efforts of the staff, he passed away.

“Our thoughts are with his family at this most difficult time.

“The officers are continuing their investigation into the circumstances of the incident on behalf of the coroner.”

The East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) said paramedics were called to a business address at 1:23 p.m.

In a statement, an EMAS spokeswoman said: “We received a call to a business address in Somercotes at 1:23 pm on June 2nd.

“The caller reported a medical emergency.

“We sent two paramedics in rapid response vehicles and one ambulance with a double crew.

“The ambulance was also in action.

“A patient was brought to the Royal Derby Hospital in a two-crew ambulance.”
