“We are not defusing the police. If anything, we will go the other way,” said Trump. “We will ensure that our police force is well trained, perfectly trained, and has the best equipment.”
The president also announced plans to create “security, opportunity and dignity” by improving access to capital for minority small businesses and addressing health inequalities in color communities.
Protests have been raging in the United States since Floyd’s death in Minneapolis on May 25 when a white officer stuck his knee on Floyd’s neck for more than eight minutes in an episode that the viewers were capturing on a cell phone video.
In the past few weeks, Trump has directed his anger mainly at looters in American cities while asking the military to intervene on the streets. The president has largely ignored the widespread peaceful protests calling for an end to police brutality.
