A TV presenter has caused public anger after dressing up as a Wuhan bat seller at a costume party.
Australian columnist Caroline Marcus has shared public opinion on the controversial Halloween costume.
Pictures posted on Instagram showed Caroline and her husband Jake Swarts disguised as street vendors in Wuhan and two babies dressed as bats in their baskets.
Many social media users expressed outrage at the insensitive post that seems to mock the city where the coronavirus originated in China.
The snap, which has now been deleted, was headed, “I don’t think so [the baby] was too happy to be cut off in our two-for-one prize for you, Wuhan Special.
“Our baby is totally cool with it, so any takers?”
Caroline, known for her outspoken views, explained in another post why she chose the costume. Mail online Reports.
It read: “Because something could be serious Be more scary in 2020 than a couple of street vendors in Wuhan selling a very edible bat? “
Some saw the fun side of the Instagram post and giggled at Caroline’s creative costumes.
While others branded the costumes “offensive” and referred Sky News reporters and Daily Telegraph columnists to anti-racism resources.
One person said, “This is really worrying. I hope you will take a step back and consider how offensive this could be to a group of people, especially at this time when people of Asian backgrounds are violent because of views like people This is exercised.
“As a journalist, I hope you will take some time to think about why this isn’t cool.”
Others claimed the move humiliated those affected by the deadly virus, and one criticized parents for including their children in the online joke.
They said: “I can’t stop thinking about Caroline Marcus and her terrible, racist Halloween costume that she tied up her young children in. “
The social media post also encouraged laughter, and some found the controversial joke funny.
One person said “that’s brilliant” while another said “so good,” followed by a triple laugh emoji.
Another added: “You win the Caroline Marcus Prize. That’s the best.”
