Line of Duty fans are used to getting their heads turned by the twists and turns in the BBC one-cop drama.
But this week’s episode (April 25) revealed a startling truth about one of the main characters in series six.
Shortly after the cliffhanger end of episode five – seen by 10 million people on BBC One – DCI Joanne Davidson (Kelly Macdonald) survived an armed altercation with Pc Ryan Pilkington (Gregory Piper).
But when that episode’s record breaking interview, which lasted 29 minutes and 22 seconds, exposed Davidson to the most vicious question posed by DCI Patricia Carmichael (Anna Maxwell Martin).
After Davidson – from DNA deposits in the apartment of ex-girlfriend PS Farida Jatri (Anneika Rose) – was exposed as Tommy Hunter.
The former OCG kingpin and pedophile was Davidson’s mother, Samantha’s brother, so Jo’s uncle.
But while Davidson was interrogated by Carmichael, Superintendent Ted Hastings (Adrian Dunbar) and DI Steve Arnott (Martin Compston), she discovered another, terrifying truth about her past.
Hunter was both her father and her uncle, and raped her mother, Samantha, when she was only 15, resulting in the birth of Jo Davidson.
Through a forced relationship with Davidson and her mother, Tommy steered her into making his bids, which led to Samantha’s suicide.
Meanwhile, Jo Davidson was nursed and embedded in the police force to bid the OCG. in a remarkable resemblance to the experiences of Dot Cottan and Ryan Pilkington.
Millie on Twitter was amazed and said: “So far this episode: Ryan is dead, Kate and Jo went on a chase for what? And Tommy Hunter is Jo’s uncle AND father? !! ?? MOTHER OF GOD.”
Danielle-Jade Neil was equally stunned: “Tommy Hunter brought his sister to her knees … but Jo was always told her father was a twisted copper! That’s damn crazy !!!!!!”
Meanwhile, however, Bernadette Hawks wasn’t surprised: “I suggested an incestuous relationship between Tommy Hunter and Jo Davidson’s mother. # LineofDuty6@ Shrinepod@ Cparks1976#ObsessedWithLineOfDuty“”
