U.S. pledges medical aid for India to combat surge

The White House has identified raw material sources that are urgently needed for the manufacture of the Covishield vaccine in India and will make them available. The US also intends to pay to expand the manufacturing capacity of BioE, the vaccine maker in India, so that the company can ramp up and produce at least 1 billion doses of Covid-19 vaccines by the end of 2022.

A team of U.S. health advisors from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and USAID are also deployed to assist Indian officials.

A total of 349,691 confirmed infections last day brought India’s total to more than 16.9 million cases, just behind the United States (32 million +). The Ministry of Health reported an additional 2,767 deaths in the past 24 hours, bringing India’s deaths to 192,311.
