Updated odds on landing spots for Dalton, Newton, Winston

It remains to be seen which quarterback domino will fall next, but the misfits seem to agree where that domino will fall.

And that may not be good news for Gardner Minshew or Tyrod Taylor.

The DraftKings sportsbook offers opportunities for the following three quarterback landing sites: Andy Dalton, Cam Newton and Jameis Winston. And in all three cases, the Jacksonville Jaguars and Los Angeles Chargers are in the top four. A further look at the numbers reveals:

** The Jaguars are the only team with odds below +1000 (10-to-1) for all three quarterbacks.

** The Chargers and Jaguars are 1-2 in a specific order for Newton and Winston.

** Dalton’s number 2 team is Cincinnati – its current employer.

** The only other team in the top five for all three quarterbacks is New England.

The quarterback carousel accelerated on March 17. That day, Philip Rivers agreed to join the Chargers at Indianapolis after 16 seasons, and Tom Brady agreed to join the Patriots with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after two decades, leaving Winston without a team. The news also broke that the Carolina Panthers added Teddy Bridgewater, suddenly making Newton replaceable.

A day later, the Jaguars agreed to trade former Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles to Chicago, handing over the runway to Minshew instead of what was expected to be a high-profile battle for the camp. The Panthers released Newton a week later.

With Rivers gone and Brady missing, the Chargers currently have Taylor as a starter. Over the weekend, Taylor told The Orange County Register that he expects the charges against the Chargers under his leadership to “turn a lot of heads.”

However, that hasn’t slowed rumors linking Newton to the Chargers. And with Newton (Florida and Auburn) and Winston (Florida State) both spending their NCAA and NFL careers in the Southeast, strangers both see as solid candidates to join the Jags and push Minshew – or back -up – who only shot as a rookie after Foles got injured in the 2019 season opener.

As for Dalton, the Bengal ranks first and is widely expected to take LSU quarterback Joe Burrow. Dalton has reportedly been on the trading block for several weeks, although recent reports have said the team hasn’t ruled out staying on the roster.
