A viral video of a woman racially abusing and spat at a doorman after being kicked out of a JD Wetherspoon pub has sparked a criminal investigation and a lifetime ban.
West Midlands police said they arrested a woman on suspicion of racist abuse of a pub clerk after a video went viral
The 25-second clip, which is widely shared online and on social media, features a woman cursing a coworker outside The Figure of Eight pub with bad mouth.
The shocking video – what can be seen here – went viral quickly, reports Birmingham Live.
At some point the bouncer, who talks calmly to the woman everywhere, is pushed in the back by her when he turns away.
The incident then ends with her walking away, swearing and spitting in the direction of the bouncer, using racist language while other members of the public watch.
JD Wetherspoon, who operates the premises, said the woman was initially “expelled for her behavior” and after her escape she was “banned for life.”
According to the largest trade association of downtown nightlife, other premises in the city center could follow with bans.
West Midlands Police Chief Inspector James Spencer said, “It’s a terrible incident and people are understandably disgusted. We said we would prioritize the investigation and that has now resulted in the swift arrest of a suspect.”
The footage posted by the bouncer involved has been viewed more than two million times on Instagram since it was uploaded.
In another development, boiler and heating equipment maker Worcester Bosch made a statement after multiple social media users linked the incident to an employee who said she worked for the company.
The Worcestershire firm said, “We are aware of a video that is currently being shared online that includes a woman claiming to work for our company.
“At the moment we are not sure if this person is working for us, but rest assured, if they do, we are taking a zero tolerance approach to any form of racism and this matter is raised with the utmost urgency and treated with seriousness. “
A Wetherspoon spokesman said: “This behavior is completely unacceptable and the woman is banned for life.
“We will also prosecute them for criminal harm and give the CCTV and bodycam material to the police.”
Regional manager Heath Curley added: “The woman had been to the pub but we didn’t like her behavior so she was asked to leave.
“When escorted outside, she overturned furniture, including chairs.
“When he was outside, the doorman closed the door, but the woman kicked the door and cracked the glass.
“She then subjected him to racist abuse, as can be seen on the video.”
Mr. Curley praised the concierge, who is employed by an outside agency and regularly works on Broad Street, for being “calm” and describing him as a “very nice guy.”
“This behavior is totally unacceptable and this woman will not be welcomed again in any Wetherspoon pub in the city center,” he added.
Mike Olley, general manager of the Westside Business Improvement District (BID), which includes Broad Street, said, “We will also see that she is banned from all downtown venues for life.
“We’re going to report the incident to all of the other BIDs in the city center and the town’s Pub Watch group because we simply don’t want or tolerate anyone who shows this horrific behavior.”
