Virgin Media has introduced WiFi boosting pods to help households struggling with broadband blackspots.
The speeds around the property can be tripled if the new equipment is combined with improved intelligent WiFi capabilities onboard the hubs, the company said.
It is claimed that the pods, which can be plugged in and moved to any room, reduce the impact of neighboring WiFi networks by automatically changing settings to stop interference.
Coverage is expanded through the creation of a cloud-controlled “mesh” network that is constantly adapting and evolving to ensure that connected devices are seamlessly making the best possible signal no matter where they are in the home.
Virgin Media’s Ultimate Oomph and Gig1 customers can get the service known as Intelligent WiFi Plus at no additional cost, while others can upgrade for £ 5 per month.
However, the company said that coverage of any Hub 3 or Hub 4 router should be improved after the recent upgrades.
Jeff Dodds, Virgin Media’s Chief Operating Officer, said, “Intelligent WiFi Plus is our most advanced and immersive WiFi service to date, helping to remove broadband blackspots and deliver faster, more reliable speeds across the home.
“Whether our customers are working, streaming, surfing, gaming or staying connected online, the combination of new hub capabilities and WiFi pods offers a gradual change in connectivity that won’t let you down.”
The move came after internet service providers saw record usage in 2020 due to increased home work and schooling during the coronavirus pandemic.
