Russian President Vladimir Putin is self-isolating after members of his entourage test positive for Covid, but the Kremlin insists he does not have the virus.

The government insists that Mr Putin is “perfectly healthy” and has not contracted the coronavirus, even though others are close to him.

Just yesterday, the Russian commander-in-chief was photographed during a huge military exercise in Kaliningrad on its border with Europe.

He personally watched as 2,000 soldiers and more than 200 pieces of military equipment took part in the exercise as troops stormed ashore in a war game with the Baltic Sea and other fleets.

Putin was supposed to monitor joint exercises with Belarus along with Armenia, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Mongolia today at a military rifle range in the Nizhny Novgorod region.

The president should also travel to Tajikistan for planned regional security meetings this week, the Kremlin said

A Kremlin spokesman said in a statement on the phone call: “Putin said that due to coronavirus cases in his environment he has to adhere to a self-isolation regime for a certain period of time.”

The Russian leader took a number of health precautions during the pandemic and received two doses of the Sputnik-V-COVID-19 vaccine.
