A Vogue model has told how she killed her husband when he “mocked her by bringing another woman home after she refused to have sex with him”.

Prosecutors in Russia have upgraded the charge against Lilia Sudakova, 27, to murder for aggravated assault, which could carry a 15-year sentence.

Speaking for the first time about the killing of Sergey Popov, 28, the model – famous for her natural auburn hair – insists she was a victim of domestic violence and acted in self-defense.

“He was totally drunk,” she said. “He came home with a girl and I understood what he was trying to show me.

“The night before I didn’t do what he wanted me to do… he wanted sex… and he was just showing me he could find someone else…

“I went into the kitchen and asked her if she wanted something to eat.

“He said he wanted something to eat too, but I replied he could make it himself.

“From that moment on he became aggressive.

“He attacked me and our friend [also in the flat in St Petersburg] pulled him away.”

As she cut a tomato with a kitchen knife, she claimed he yelled at her and “grabbed me again.”

Now under house arrest after eight months on remand, she told an interviewer that she “tried to push him away” and accidentally stabbed him in the chest during the fight.

“I saw blood, saw a knife in my hand,” she said.

“And I was afraid that he would take that knife and just hack me to death.

“Then I called an ambulance, tried to talk sense into him and gave him water.

“He said, ‘It doesn’t hurt,’ and added, ‘Forgive me.'”

But prosecutors say she deliberately stabbed her husband to kill him.

He “placed his right palm on her right shoulder to calm her down and resolve the conflict,” but she “deliberately and purposefully” looked at him and “stabbed him at least once in the chest,” the new murder indictment said at the Dzerzhinsky District Court in St. Petersburg, where her trial is scheduled to begin this month.

He died later in hospital.

The model – who has appeared on the cover of Russian Vogue and in magazines in Italy, China and Japan, and was the face of a Moscow clothing brand – first told investigators she stabbed her four-year-old husband to death out of “jealousy” after he brought him home brought a woman he met in a bar, according to reports citing law enforcement officials.

Her mother Irena Sudakova, 49, claims the runway star was a long-time victim of domestic violence and acted in self-defense when she stabbed Popov 13 months ago.

“At that moment she waved him away and accidentally stabbed him with a knife.”

It was an “irresistible impulse,” she said, adding, “Lilia is a victim, it was self-defense.

“It was such a sick love. It all happened by accident.”

The model’s friend, stylist Karolina Pavlovskaya, also said Lilia was a victim of abuse.

“She was a broken girl with beautiful looks but an emptiness inside,” she said.

The couple were in a vacation rental in St. Petersburg when he was killed.

The model spoke to reporter Sasha Sulim on Redakciya channel about a project called Why Women Kill, which highlights the role of domestic violence in many cases.
