If you’ve noticed green boxes flooding your Twitter timeline, you are not alone.
Created in October 2021, the free-to-play game is the first craze of the new year and attracts nearly half a million users every day.
Wordle’s premise is simple: you need to guess a five letter word by entering characters in blank spaces.
The color-coded boxes show you which letters you got right and which letters you have yet to guess correctly.
Wordle’s simplicity makes it very playable and absolutely annoying.
Players only have to guess six times to find the correct word and you will only get one word per day.
Who Made Wordle?
Wordle was developed by Reddit software engineer Josh Wardle for his world-loving partner.
He then put the game online and after tweaking the game so that players could share the results online, its popularity skyrocketed.
“It doesn’t try to do anything shady with your data or your eyeballs,” he said, pledging never to monetize the game.
“It’s just a game that is fun.”
Wardle told BBC Radio 4’s Today program that he is “a little suspicious of mobile apps that require your attention and send you push notifications to get more of your attention”.

How to play Wordle
You can Play Wordle here, as there is currently no smartphone app available for download.
Placing it in app stores would likely mean collecting data from players, which Wardle strongly opposes.
The game, based entirely on web browsers, is ad-free and can be played on any internet-enabled device.
When you open the webpage, you’ll see a grid of six lines of five tiles, each representing a letter.
To begin with, a player must guess a random five-letter word on the first line. The game then marks the correct letters.
Letters highlighted in green are correct and in the right place, letters highlighted in yellow mean that the letter is in the word, but in a different position. A gray mark means that the letter does not appear in the word at all.
The players then have five more attempts to guess the correct word, moving along the grid as they go.
How often can you play Wordle?
The creator made it so that the addicting game can only be played once a day.
Wardle said so New York Times that was wanted and part of the appeal.
He said, “It’s something that encourages you to spend three minutes a day. And that’s it. It doesn’t want any more of your time than that. “
The game is free for everyone too, and Wardle doesn’t want to monetize it at all, adding, “It doesn’t try to do anything shady with your data or your eyeballs. It’s just a game that is fun. “
