When the last Neighbours episode is screened and who will be in it

It was the soap we all loved as kids, but sadly, the show that brought us Bouncer the Dog after almost 40 years, made Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan famous, and saw Harold rise from the dead isn’t now more.

Australian soap Neighbors was canceled after its main UK broadcast partner decided to stop showing it. Neighbors desperately searched for alternative financing but couldn’t come to an agreement. At the end of the television’s 37-year existence, an official statement read, “We simply have no choice but to pause the show.”

After almost 9,000 episodes in almost 40 years, Neighbors has ceased production. “We know this is a huge disappointment to our amazing, loyal fans, as well as all of us on the team,” Neighbors said in a statement.

“We thank you for all of your messages and support and promise to end the show on an incredible high. From now on we celebrate Neighbors.”

Neighbors helped launch the careers of household names including Kylie Minogue, Russell Crowe, Margot Robbie and all three Hemsworth brothers. Events in Erinsborough have captivated audiences over the decades, with Scott (Jason Donovan) and Charlene’s (Kylie Minogue) wedding in 1987 drawing 19.6 million viewers in the UK.

When is the last Neighbors episode airing?

The very final episode of the Australian soap will air Monday 1st August 2022 on Channel 5. Producers have confirmed the finale will be an epic double installment, but a airtime has yet to be agreed.

There is speculation as to whether it could be moved from the traditional 1.45pm and 6pm slots to a prime time placement.

Who will be in the Neighbors final?

Kylie and Jason will star in the Neighbors finale, the show has confirmed. “It was beautiful and emotional. Driving down Ramsay Street was something special,” commented Minogue.

When asked about her reaction on set, she said: “First of all, where has all the time gone? Second, everything looks exactly the same. Third, Scott, Charlene, Jane, Harold—everything just came back.”

Executive Producer Jason Herbison previously announced the beloved duo’s return: “Scott and Charlene are the ultimate Neighbors couple and it wouldn’t feel right to finish the show without them.

“We are thrilled that Jason and Kylie have come home to play a very special role in our series finale. It was an emotional experience for them, for us and I’m sure it will be for our viewers.”

Hollywood star Guy Pearce, who played Mike Young from 1986 to 1989, will also take on his role. Herbison said, “Having him back on set was poignant for him and for us.”

Another fan favorite, Alan Fletcher (Dr. Karl Kennedy), will be back at Harold’s Cafe when the final episode airs.
