White House cancels press briefing, citing snow-related federal closures

The White House announced Monday that it would not hold its daily press conference due to federal office closings due to snowy weather in the Washington, DC area.

The National Weather Service on Monday morning issued a winter storm warning for the District of Columbia and adjacent counties in Maryland and Virginia. The warning, which will remain in effect through 4 p.m., warned that snow build-up could add up to 5 to 10 inches across the district, greater Washington area, and parts of northern Virginia.

The US Office of Personnel Management on Sunday evening announced that federal offices in the country’s capital will be closed on Monday because of the snow storm. As a result, “there will be no press conference today,” the White House said in a statement circulated Monday morning by a pool reporter.
