The Biden government has “deep concerns” about the World Health Organization’s early Covid-19 investigation, national security adviser Jake Sullivan said on Saturday, urging China to release data from the outbreak’s start.
“It is imperative that this report is independent and that expert results are free from interference or change by the Chinese government,” Sullivan wrote in a statement. “Going forward, all countries, including China, should participate in a transparent and robust process of preventing and responding to health emergencies so that the world learns as much as possible as soon as possible.”
Early in the pandemic, China ignored offers by experts investigating the Covid-19 outbreak and has been criticized for its transparency as the pandemic spread worldwide. the WHO recently completed that the coronavirus was unlikely to have come from a Chinese laboratory and that it was likely to have come from an animal.
