White House says Covid-19 home-testing market on track to quadruple by year's end

More test pages: The government is also working to double the number of pharmacies participating in the government’s free trial program – which is expected to exceed 10,000 stores in the coming weeks – to 20,000 locations.

The White House ultimately hopes to have 30,000 free trial sites across the country, including community-based trial sites.

Home Testing Problems: The White House announcement comes a day later FDA warns that certain lots of Ellume’s home test are prone to potentially false positive results due to a manufacturing issue.

The problem affected approximately 427,000 tests from Ellume, out of the 3.5 million the company shipped to the United States. About 195,000 of the affected tests were not used, according to a company spokesman.

What’s next: The government argues that the government’s investments will expand access to Covid-19 testing and lower prices.

“Not only will there be more tests on the market, but we expect much more affordable tests on the market,” said the White House official.
