Prince Bernhard, 50, the Hereditary Prince of Baden, is one of 30 guests who will attend Prince Philip’s funeral on Saturday.
Prince Bernhard, also known as Bernhard Max Friedrich August Gustav Ludwig Kraft, is the grandson of Duke Theodora’s second sister.
Born in Germany, Prince Bernhard is the eldest son of Maximilian, Margrave of Baden and Archduchess Valerie of Austria. He is a great nephew of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

Prince Bernhard manages the family estates such as Staufenberg Castle and the wineries that are dedicated to preserving the Müller-Thurgau grape variety. In the years 2000-2009 he supervised the transfer of many family goods, including Eberstein Castle and parts of Salem Castle, to the German state in order to stabilize the family’s finances.
He married Stephanie Anne Kaul in 2001 and the couple have three children – Prince Leopold Bernhard Max Michael Ernst-August Friedrich Guillaume von Baden, Prince Friedrich Bernhard Leopold Christian Berthold Christoph von Baden and Prince Karl-Wilhelm Bernhard Max Alexander Ernst-August Heinrich- Donatus Mathais of Baden.
The family lives in Linzgau near Salem Castle
Prince Bernhard is one of three members of the Duke of Edinburgh’s family who attend the funeral from Germany.
The Duke’s heart was always concerned with the German side of his family.
Philip himself was a German on his mother’s side, as Princess Alice von Battenberg was a Hessian princess.
All four of Philip’s older sisters married into German royal and aristocratic families, especially since they all moved there after the family’s exile from Greece.
