Some of them may be able to claim a cold weather payment during the winter period, which will give them much-needed cash when the harsh conditions hit.

But who exactly gets a part of this money? Here’s everything we know about this year’s Cold Weather Payment program and the types of people who can get some cash.

Who is entitled to a cold weather payment?

To receive a cold weather payment, you must belong to one or more of the qualifying groups and receive this benefit. The following means you will get the money:

  • Retirement loan.

  • Social care.

  • Income-related allowance for job seekers.

  • Income-related employment and support allowance.

  • Universal credit.

  • Support for mortgage interest.

For the benefits listed above, apart from Pension Credit and Universal Credit, you must also meet one or more of the following criteria as part of your entitlement:

  • You receive the premium for severe or advanced disability.

  • A pensioner bonus.

  • You have a disabled child.

  • You are applying for child tax withholding that contains an element of disability or severe disability.

  • You have a child under the age of 5 who lives with you.

For Universal Credit, you must meet at least one of the following criteria:

  • You have an illness or disability and only have limited work opportunities.

  • You have a child under the age of 5 who lives with you.

  • You have a disabled child and are already applying for one as part of your universal loan (regardless of whether you are employed or not).

If you meet the criteria for the cash, you will be paid £ 25 for every seven day period that the mercury drops to freezing or below, according to a local weather station. It should be paid for automatically.

This year’s program runs from the beginning of November 2021 through the end of March 2022, and you can choose the Online weather tool to see if a payment is due in your area.

If you are not eligible for a cold weather payment, check out the Winter Fuel Allowance or the Household Support Fund as you may be eligible for cash or financial aid under these schemes.
