Social service employers are struggling to recruit the workers they need, new figures show.
Companies are struggling to retain existing staff and attract new employees, according to the latest report on the state of the adult care sector and the workforce in England from Skills for Care, an industry association.
The report found that while there was a decline in vacancies in the care sector earlier this year, that trend reversed as the wider economy reopened.

Why is there a shortage of nurses?
Work in social services is known to be difficult, with its demanding working conditions and low wages, which are often criticized.
During the pandemic, the care sector carried much of the brunt as many patients who tested positive for Covid Approved back to nursing homes while they are still contagious.
All of this has made the social care sector generally unattractive to people with alternative career options.
Before Brexit, many social workers were recruited from other European countries. The post-Brexit immigration restrictions make this much more difficult and exacerbate the problem.
How many vacancies are there in the nursing sector?
The Skills for Care report estimates that there are more than 100,000 vacancies in the care sector.
Before the pandemic, 8% of jobs in this occupation were vacant. This fell to 6% in June 2020, but rose again to 8.2% by August of this year.
How Much Are Nurses Paid?
Corresponding Krankenschwestern.de, the average annual salary for nursing assistants in the UK is between £ 16,000 and £ 18,000.
This corresponds to an average hourly wage between 8.50 and 9.50 euros.
However, in some parts of the country – particularly London and the South East – carers are paid more than their counterparts in other areas.
