Will Smith has revealed the upcoming actor who will play the role that once made him famous in a reboot of The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air.
The Hollywood star stunned newbie Jabari Banks by announcing the news during a joint video call.
Banks will play the role of Will, the character who catapulted Smith, 52, to fame after the show became a hit in the 1990s.
Smith shared the news with Banks: “It is an absolute pleasure to meet you, to be with you, and I want to congratulate you from the bottom of my heart.
“You have Will on Bel-Air.”
An enthusiastic Banks replied, “I’m ready, I’m so ready.”
The actor revealed that his father had sent him an article about the audition and suggested that they try it out before his agent got him a seat.
“This will make a dream come true,” said Banks.
The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air played Smith as a fictional version of himself, a street-wise teenager sent to his wealthy aunt and uncle in their Bel-Air mansion after an argument in his hometown of Philadelphia.
It ran for six seasons from 1990 to 1996.
NBC streaming service Peacock’s reboot is based on Morgan Cooper’s 2019 viral spec trailer Bel-Air.
Producers said it was set in the modern age and described it as a one-hour “dramatic analogue” to the half-hour sitcom of the original.
