Woman, 97, dies after car hit by driver on wrong side of A1

An elderly woman was seriously injured in a head-on collision with a wrong-way car on a motorway.

Joan Croucher, 97, was killed in the accident on the A1M Northbound in Aberford on December 30th. Yorkshire Live Reports.

Joan, who was from the Filey area of ​​North Yorkshire, died in hospital on January 3rd.

She was a passenger in a silver Volkswagen Polo driving north on the Autobahn when it collided with a red Vauxhall combo van around 3 p.m. that day.

Both drivers suffered minor injuries in the crash that occurred about a mile from exit 44.

The West Yorkshire Police Department Major Collision Inquiry Team has requested witnesses to report.

Sergeant Paul Lightowler said: “We are still asking for witnesses to this collision and anyone who has seen or dashcamed the Polo as it drove the A64 in the wrong direction in North Yorkshire.

“We also support Joan’s family in coping with their death.”

Anyone who has seen the Polo on the A64 or has dashcam footage to help is asked to contact the Major Collision Inquiry Team at 101, quoting Protocol 861 dated December 30th.
