One woman says she is stopped in the street by strangers who think she is the same as Princess Diana – and even ask if she is her daughter.
Sophie Eales, 24, accidentally recreated Lady Diana’s famous bob after getting bored of her usual hairstyle.
Now she regularly attracts comments from passers-by who are amazed at the resemblance between Sophie and the late princess, and some people even ask for hugs.
Sophie, a Bournemouth hairdresser, said, “I wanted to change my whole style. I always had long hair and just thought ‘why not?’
“I cut most of it off because I wanted layers. One thing led to another – and then I started going out.
“The attention I get – people say, ‘You look like Princess Diana – are you her daughter?’
“I always say no – I know who my mother is! – but it’s a nice compliment. I don’t think I look like her. I just wanted a new look. “
She decided to change her appearance in April 2021 and now says that she has no plans to grow her hair back.
“It’s like I can’t move to get the attention,” said Sophie. “I woke up and my whole life has changed completely.”
She added that the makeover increased her self-esteem.
“I’m just an ordinary girl,” said Sophie. “But the confidence boost – I love it so much. Every time I wake up, I know that the curlers have to be in and the hair has to be bouncy. “
She was first spotted buying milk in a supermarket.
“I was just standing in line. When I paid, there were some people behind me,” she said.
“They were shocked – because I looked so much like Princess Diana. They said, ‘Has anyone told you before?’ I was speechless.”
On another occasion, a teenager asked Sophie for a hug because of their resemblance.
She said, “I was with a couple of pals last year and there was a teenager who wanted to cuddle. Some people want selfies.”
Princess Diana, who died in 1997, had a number of memorable hairstyles that added to her status as a fashion icon, including a voluminous look synonymous with the Sloane Ranger set in the 1980s.
