A court sentenced a young woman to nearly 57 years in prison for killing a pregnant woman to steal her unborn baby by cutting it from her womb.

The court in the city of Tijucas in the Brazilian state of Santa Catarina sentenced 27-year-old Rozalba Maria Grime to 56 years and 10 months in prison on Wednesday, November 24.

She allegedly lured a woman whom the prosecution said she knew to an old pottery, where she is said to have beaten her with a brick before committing the unspeakable atrocity.

The trial, which lasted about 15 hours, resulted in the young woman found guilty of aggravated murder, attempted murder of a baby, covering up a corpse, obstruction of justice, kidnapping a minor and denial of the rights of a newborn child was found.
