Two high-profile tea brands have responded to criticism from customers who support the Black Lives movement.
Yorkshire Tea and PG Tips have both gone viral with tweets to callous customers, prompting them to denounce the ongoing global protests.
The Black Lives Matter movement conquers the globe with peaceful protests from the United States to Birmingham.
In Birmingham, 4,000 people peacefully protested in Centenary Square last week after George Floyd, a black American, was brutally killed when a Minneapolis policeman knelt on his neck for eight minutes.
A troll on Twitter wrote: “I am so glad Yorkshire Tea did not support BLM.”
But the tea brand – one of the nation’s best-selling – struck back: “Please don’t buy our tea again. We take some time to educate ourselves and plan appropriate measures before we post. We are against racism.” “”
They accompanied the tweet with the hashtag #BlackLivesMatter.
And PG Tips, the brand’s main competitor, responded with a similar message and published the hashtag #BlackLivesMatter next to the hashtag #solidaritea.
The brand also wrote: “If you boycott anti-racism teas, you have to find two new tea brands now.”
Both tweets were highly valued and retweeted, and thousands shared them on the social media platform.
“Awesome,” wrote one fan, and a second hot beverage fan added, “Well done, folks. Excellent response.”
