A young woman died after falling 50 meters while taking a selfie on a cliff near the bridge that appeared in the opening sequence of the James Bond film “Skyfall”.

Hatice Nur Karabulut, 21, took a photo with her cousin Mazlum Sozeri (26) on the Varda Viaduct in Adana, Turkey, when the disaster struck on Monday.

Shortly after 5:30 p.m. Hatice is said to have lost her balance and Mazlum tried desperately to hold her.

But the couple fell down the cliff together, with Hatice suffering catastrophic injuries.

Witnesses called rescue workers to the scene and workers used a crane to get the cousins ​​from where they had fallen.

Hatice was pronounced dead on the scene and her body underwent an autopsy in the city of Adana while her cousin was taken by ambulance to a hospital in the provincial capital.

Hatice had only recently started a job as a cook at a local restaurant and she had taken her cousin, who was visiting from Spain, where he lives, to see the local tourist attraction.

Hatice leaves behind two grieving parents and a 14-year-old sister.

Mazlum’s injuries are not said to have been life-threatening.

The stone arch railway viaduct was built from 1905 to 1916 by Imperial German engineers as part of the Berlin-Baghdad railway.
