A British man drowned while swimming on the Spanish Costa Blanca.
The tragedy occurred on Thursday evening in front of Albufereta beach in the city of Alicante.
It wasn’t immediately clear whether the Briton, who is said to be around 40 years old, was an expat or a vacationer.
Fishermen spotted him floating in the water and, according to local reports, brought him to the coast.
Police and paramedics were called to the scene around 5:30 p.m. and rushed to his aid to give him a resuscitation.

But unfortunately they couldn’t save the man and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The tragedy occurred on a sandy beach a short drive northwest of the city center.
The Spanish National Police have not yet commented on the death and the man’s identity has yet to be released.
A local court has started a routine investigation and is awaiting a police report and autopsy results, which will be sent directly to the investigating magistrate and will not be made public.
