Cabinet colleague won't comment on claim Matt Hancock had affair

Transportation Secretary Grat Shapps said he would not speak on a “very personal” matter after pictures were released allegedly showing his married cabinet colleague Matt Hancock hugging his closest assistant.

Grant Shapps told Sky News that former lobbyist Gina Coladangelo – who the health minister met at the university – went through an “incredibly rigorous” process to get the job.

When asked about the rules for making friends in government positions, Mr. Shapps said, “First of all, I think the real problem for Matt Hancock is very personal.

“Regarding the rules, anyone who has been appointed has to go through an incredibly rigorous process in government, so the rules have to be followed regardless of the rules.

“There are no abbreviations, everyone who has ever dealt with the appointment system in the public service knows that.

“There are very strict rules.”
