Liz Zhanying, a Chinese woman from Henan Province, claims she has not slept in 40 years, and experts in Beijing have confirmed that she spends less than 10 minutes a day with her eyes closed
Doctors are amazed at the strange case of a woman who claims that she has not slept a single night since she was a child.
Sleepless Li Zhanying from China’s eastern Henan Province told local media that the last time she had a kip was when she was five years old.
Li’s many awake nights made her a celebrity in her small village after local media reported the case.
Her neighbors thought her claims were nonsense and a few years ago tried to stay up with her playing cards with her all night.
The villagers soon gave in to the charm of sleeping, with one on the table turning a blind eye and another returning home.
But Li was still wide awake, reports say.

Her husband, Liu Suoquin, confirmed that he had never seen his wife sleep.
Instead of resting, Li cleans the house in the middle of the night, he said.
Liu became concerned about his troubled wife and bought her sleeping pills to treat what he believed to be insomnia.
The pills didn’t work either, he told local media.
Li went to Chinese news site for a medical explanation that doctors could not provide Bastille Post reported.
She eventually found her diagnosis at a Beijing sleep center, where doctors stated that she was actually sleeping, just in a very strange way.
As she watched her talk to her husband, they noticed that Li’s eyes slowed and she actually fell asleep even though she was still talking to him.
Another test with a brain wave monitor showed that her eyes were never closed for more than 10 minutes a day.
The sleep center explained that the bizarre phenomenon is similar to how sleepwalkers’ bodies are active while the brain is asleep.
