Hunters Condemned For Slaughtering 450 Animals In One Day

It was a slaughterfest of a-pork-alyptic proportions.

Spanish hunters are under fire for reportedly slaughtering nearly 450 fenced-in game animals in what environmentalists have dubbed an “orgy of blood and death.”

“It’s an absolute bloodbath, slaughter on a totally senseless scale,” Eduardo Goncalves, founder of the Campaign to Ban Trophy Hunting, told the Independent of the “shocking” massacre, which occurred in one day on a private estate in Villaviciosa de Córdoba, Andalucia.

Participating sportsmen paid more than $1,000 to gun down 447 boars and deer as part of a commercial hunt, according to El Mundo† As the helpless beasts were hemmed by fences, they had nowhere to go as more than 70 hunters opened fire on them like a shooting gallery.

Ghoulish footage shows the numerous animal carcasses splayed out side by side like casualties of a war crime.

While this type of hunt is legal according to Spanish law, animal rights advocates objected to the use of fences, which they deemed unethical and unsportsmanlike.

“The only defense is escape, and this is absolutely diminished by a wire barrier,” lamented Joaquín Reina, from Ecologists in Action, who added that the barbaric pastime is dismayingly common in Andalucia and other fence-riddled regions, per the Independent.

Goncalves also condemned the “utterly cowardly” activity, fuming: “The people who did this call themselves sport hunters. There was nothing remotely sporting about this.”

Nevertheless, many hunting enthusiasts disagreed with their assessment. Manuel Gallardo, president of the Royal Spanish Hunting Federation, argued that hunting is essential to “maintain the balance” in an environment that’s teeming with an “overabundance of species,” the Daily Mail reported.

Along with ensuring “eco-librium,” Gallardo estimated that hunting reportedly generates nearly $7.5 billion in revenue per year along with providing numerous jobs.

He added the seemingly ritualistic display of dead animals in the photo was necessary for health regulations.

Recently, wild boar have run amok across Europe with Spanish police reportedly receiving 1,187 phone calls in 2016 concerning the aggressive porkers attacking dogspillaging cat food and even causing traffic accidents.

In September, Colombian pop icon Shakira was accommodated in a Barcelona park by two of the thieving swine, which reportedly made off with her handbag.
