John Whaite drops out of Strictly tour shows over positive Covid test

Strictly Come Dancing finalist John Whaite has withdrawn from two shows on the live tour after testing positive to reports from Covid, PA.

The Great British Bake Off star, who finished runner-up in the final of Strictly 2021, was due to take the stage with partner Johannes Radebe at the OVO Hydro Glasgow for two shows on Sunday and Monday.

In a video filmed from his hotel room bed and shared to his Instagram Story, he said he had “a bit of bad news,” adding, “A sideways flow this morning has come back positive so now I have to sit here glamorous.” Captivity until a result of a PCR comes back – and I hope they come back negative because I feel good.

“I got triple stung, I had coronavirus over the summer so I’m hoping it’s just a false positive.

“But of course that means I can’t perform in Glasgow tonight or tonight, so I’m very, very, very, very, very sorry if anyone was hoping to see me wiggle on the dance floor tonight because I just can’t gonna be there to shake it

“I’ll be in my hotel room and probably still shaking it, but I don’t wish the world could see it because it’s not pretty darling.

“It’s not pretty without glitter and sequins. The real me – mean.

“Anyway, I’m sorry I can’t be there. I hope you enjoy the show anyway and good luck to all my friends who are on the show today.

“I’m sorry to let you all down.”

The Strictly Tour will travel to Nottingham on Wednesday before concluding at the O2 Arena in London next weekend.

There have already been changes in the line-up after AJ Odudu was forced to retire following an injury sustained during last year’s series.

She was replaced by 2020 finalist Maisie Smith, who dances with Odudu’s partner Kai Widdrington.
