A man was discovered to be hiding the mummified body of his dad under a bed after he plunged from his third-floor window during an eviction.

Authorities are now trying to uncover how the 83-year-old died after discovering his body while his injured son, 54, was being treated and taken to hospital.

Officials believe the unnamed OAP has been dead for around 18 months.

His son Jose Manuel Cobos, 54, is still at Madrid’s Puerta de Hierro Hospital after suffering a ruptured spleen, head injuries, several crushed vertebrae and a broken hip.

Police have been told they must wait untill he is better to be able to question him.

Landlords were understood to have been conducting the eviction after Jose and his dad failed to pay the rent on the flat in Palafox Street in the town of Mostoles, a 30-minute drive south-west of the center of Madrid, where Jose’s third-floor plunge led to the macabre find.

Neighbors told investigators the last time they saw the OAP was in the summer of 2020 but local reports say the former construction worker was still withdrawing his dad’s pension every month.

Jose had gone to live with his dad after a breakup with an ex who had reported him for non-payment of maintenance following their divorce, Spanish daily El Mundo reported.

The lawyer of the injured man’s unnamed ex, Alberto Martin, told the paper: “When he’s discharged from hospital he’ll be questioned by a judge and will have to explain what happened to his father.”

Forensic tests to determine whether the OAP died of natural causes are understood have been carried out, with police still awaiting the results.

Confirming he had cut himself off from the outside world and cut ties from his two siblings after the split, Mr Martin added: “His ex-wife and daughter have been very patient and waited seven or eight years before filing an official complaint.

“It was when we went to put in a civil claim that the police told us he’d jumped from the window of his dad’s house in Mostoles.”

Meanwhile, on Thursday the first image emerged of a woman whose mummified body was found in a chair at her Italian home two years after she died.

The decomposing corpse of Marinella Beretta, 70, was found in her living room in Prestino, near Lake Como, last Friday.

Police came across her remains when they made a house call during high winds in Lombardy which risked uprooting neglected trees in her garden.
