Mum's fury after nine-month-old baby called 'ugly' on Instagram

A 21-year-old mother felt hurt and angry after finding out her baby was posted on an Instagram “ugly babies” account.

Courtney, 21, of Pallister Park, Middlesbrough, said more than 200 people reported the Instagram account.

Courtney Tait’s child was one of the dozen featured on the now-deleted Ugly_Babies_ social media account believed to be from Teesside.

The page was picked up by both personal and public Facebook accounts before being removed from moderators and reports Teesside Live.

Courtney’s nine month old boy Hudson was spotted in a photo uploaded to the private site.

And terrifyingly, the sick trolls who set up the site also posted pictures of a mother’s stillborn baby.

Another girl allegedly received threats against her family from the administrators of the account.

One person claims to be able to trace an IP address for the potential perpetrator back to Roper Park.

She said, “My friend and her stillborn baby were posted on the site.

“She had photos in a collage on her Facebook. They use pictures that are on people’s personal accounts, so they think it’s someone they know.”

Courtney continued, “They threatened a girl and told her on the Instagram page that they were going to kill her mother.

“My friends have now restricted their accounts.”

The site’s administrators erased “most of the people who tried to follow them,” Courtney added.

“What makes it worse is that we are wondering what kind of people are following this report.

“We have no idea.”

Courtney was dismayed to discover that her picture, including Hudson, had been posted on the site.

“It was heartbreaking to be honest. The last thing I want is for my son to be labeled ugly.

“I know my child is beautiful – that’s not the point.

“It’s more about who sees my child, takes a picture of my nine-month-old, and publishes it to other weird people.”

Another disgusted mom posted on Facebook: “Don’t know who is sick enough to do this.

“They tried to follow me three times. I followed them to make sure my baby wasn’t there.”

“We managed to get an IP address,” the post continued, “it is from Thornaby.”

A Facebook spokesperson said the company’s community guidelines make it clear that bullying or harassment will not be tolerated on Instagram.

The account violated these guidelines.

“This account was quickly removed because it violated our bullying and harassment rules,” added the spokesman.

The government on Tuesday released its draft Online Security Act, a groundbreaking new internet security law aimed at combating abusive and harmful online content.

It will give Ofcom the ability to penalize social media companies and block access to websites.
