Russian state TV gloats over sham ruling of Brit fighters condemned to death

Aiden Aslin and Shaun Pinner were sentenced to death in a sham trial last week in the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic, prompting glee on Kremlin state television

Russia: State TV talks about imprisoned British mercenaries

Russia’s propaganda machine has publicly mocked Brits who have been sentenced to death in live broadcasts in front of millions of viewers.

Aiden Aslin, 28, and Shaun Pinner, 48, were found guilty of taking measures to seize power in a show trial in the self-declared Donetsk People’s Republic last week.

They, along with 21-year-old Moroccan Sadun Brahim, have been warned they could face the death penalty, with rumored a firing squad preparing to take their lives.

Another British prisoner, Andrew Hill, 35, a father of four from Plymouth, was also warned to face punishment when his sentence is announced

The Kremlin’s propaganda machine has openly rejoiced at the shocking outcome of the sham trial, which has been condemned by world leaders and organizations.

RT reporter Roman Kosarev told Russian state television that Aslin and Pinner “just squirmed like eels trying to somehow defend themselves.”

Footage was shown of Pinner dancing in military garb before surrendering to pro-Putin forces in Mariupol.

The Troika Telegram channel vindictively published the dance footage with the caption: “Shaun Pinner upon learning he was about to be hanged in a Donetsk square.”

Their hopes of leniency were dashed when the man responsible for hearing their apologies has indicated he believes the men deserve death.

Putin’s henchman Denis Pushilin, head of the puppet state of the Donetsk People’s Republic, was quoted as saying the killing of the men was “only a punishment”.

Meanwhile, Russian state TV presenter Olga Skabeyeva – known as Putin’s “iron doll” – claimed that Foreign Minister Liz Truss was in trouble as it was on her “orders” that the British were fighting for Ukraine.

She told viewers: “London want to work to free Pinner and Aslin but they don’t know how to go about it.

Liz Truss, the head of the Foreign Office, called the verdict illegal and promised to withdraw the British – via Kyiv. good luck liz

“The UK Government also said it was deeply concerned by the DPR’s handing down of death sentences. Boris Johnson’s representative even remembered – out of the blue! – some Geneva Conventions and combatant immunity.

“As if the Brits shouldn’t be on trial for going on a safari [killing] Russians.…

“And a separate question for tank driver Liz Truss, who says she would do anything to bring the British back… but on February 27, Liz Truss called on all interested Britons to volunteer on the Ukrainian front.

“Right now, Liz Truss doesn’t even have time to see the families of those who were convicted in Donetsk and fought under her orders.”

Truss – loathed by the Kremlin for her outspoken demands for the West to arm Ukraine and pictured on a British tank near the Russian border – was also attacked by leading propagandist Vladimir Solovyov, another TV presenter known as “Putin’s Voice”.

He interviewed the so-called “Foreign Minister” of the DPR Natalia Nikonorova.

She claimed the British men came to Ukraine to kill people “for money” and that is why they were sentenced to death.

Earlier, Mr Pinner’s former British Army comrade had branded the “disgraceful” verdict as a war crime.

Colonel Richard Kemp, former commander of British forces in Afghanistan, is a former comrade of Mr Pinner as they served together in the same Royal Anglian Regiment.

“This is a disgrace and I condemn it in the strongest terms.

“Shaun is a soldier and should be treated as one.

“This decision is a war crime and violates the Geneva Convention on the Treatment of Prisoners of War.”
