“We have offered and are ready to assist Egypt and will try to support any specific request we receive. We are continuing to monitor and assess the situation, but we have no way of providing any specific support at this time.”
CNN first reported on the Navy’s involvement in the Suez situation.
The White House also confirmed Friday that it had offered assistance to Egypt to remove the ship and get traffic back on track.
“As part of our active diplomatic dialogue with Egypt, we have offered assistance to the Egyptian authorities in the US to help reopen the canal,” said Jen Psaki, White House spokeswoman, at a briefing. “We advise our Egyptian partners on how we can best support their efforts. So these conversations are ongoing and we hope to have more to say about them soon. “
