The ever fanatical Marvel fan base was sent wild when the trailer for Doctor Strange dropped in the Multiverse of Madness.
Half-way through the highly anticipated trailer, X-Men aficionados spotted something incredibly exciting.
Stephen Strange, played by Benedict Cumberbatch, is told by an off-screen character “We should tell him the truth”.
The mystery character appeared to have the voice of Professor X, played by fan favorite Patrick Stewart.
Sir Patrick currently stars in Star Trek: Picard on Amazon Prime, reprising his role as admiral Jean-Luc Picard, but fans hope that won’t be the only role he returns to.
Played by Stewart, Charles Xavier is a mutant gifted with vast telepathic powers, who the much loved actor has played in seven films.
Will Patrick Stewart be in Doctor Strange 2?
Speaking to the Comicbook.comStewart appeared to cool rumours, saying: “You know, people have been imitating my voice ever since I came on the stage 60 years ago. So, I can’t be held responsible for that.”
He added: “Here’s the problem… If we had not made Logan, then yes, I would probably be ready to get into that wheelchair one more time and be Charles Xavier.”
However, this could be straight out of the Andrew Garfield textbook of denial.
The former web-slinger repeatedly denied any involvement in Spider-Man: No Way Home, but when the film aired, he was one of the main protagonists in what was closely guarded secret.
Stewart’s denial has had to the opposite effect of calming rumors down, instead they have grown even more intense.
Investigative fans, have uncovered quotes given to digital spy which offer hope. He admitted he had discussed reprising his role as Professor X with President of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige
Stewart said: “I met with Kevin Feige a couple of months ago and we had long, long conversations.”
“And there have been moves and suggestions, which include Charles Xavier.”
