Woman dies and two children saved after car goes into river

A woman in her 40s has died after a car drove into the River Lee last night in Cork, Ireland. Two children were rescued from the water and taken to Cork University Hospital for treatment of their non-life threatening injuries.

The incident happened around 8:45 p.m. Friday at Kennedy Quay. The woman’s body was later retrieved from the water by the Irish Naval Services dive team and taken to Cork University Hospital.

The results of the autopsy will determine the further course of the Garda investigation into the incident.
