A doctor has confirmed that contracting Covid can cause a man’s penis to permanently shrink after a victim explained it was now 1.5 inches smaller.
At least two men have had surgery for implants to fix problems with erectile dysfunction after contracting the coronavirus.
A University College London study of 3,400 people found the symptom to be rare among the 200 who had long had Covid, reports The mirror.
speaking in the podcast How it goes, a man in his 30s, said: “In July last year I contracted Covid and was very ill.
“When I got out of the hospital I had some problems with erectile dysfunction. These gradually got better with some medical help, but I seem to be left with a permanent problem.
“My penis has shrunk.”
He added: “Now I’ve lost about an inch and a half and gotten decidedly below average.
“It appears to be due to vascular damage and my doctors seem to think it’s likely permanent.
“It wasn’t supposed to matter, but it had a profound impact on my confidence in my abilities in bed.”
Urologist Ashley Winter said on the podcast: “It’s true that erectile dysfunction leads to shortening.
“You have that period when the penis isn’t expanding, when all the full blood isn’t coming in, and that can lead to penile scarring and penile shortening.
“And that’s probably what your caller is referring to now.”
Dr. Winter said that proper blood flow to the penis can be disrupted by the virus, which in turn can cause erectile dysfunction.
Dr. Winter also referenced a urologist’s study that found two men who had fully recovered from the virus still had traces of it in their penises. Both had regular operating members before contracting the virus.
Both men underwent penile implant surgery months after their infection.
