Cop, suspect shot in NYC during search warrant: police sources

An NYPD lieutenant and a suspect were shot and killed on Staten Island early Thursday, police sources said.

Police were executing a search warrant at an address on Rockne Street between Ellwood Avenue and Villa Nova Street in Heartland Village around 6 a.m. when a suspect appeared to have shot through a bedroom door and hit the narcotics lieutenant in the right leg, authorities and sources said. .

According to the sources, the officers fired back at the suspect and hit him in the leg.

The officer was taken to Staten Island University North Hospital in stable condition, police said.

He was described as “conscious and alert,” the sources said.

It was not immediately clear how serious the suspect’s injuries were.
