Will there be a 13 Reasons Why season 5? What’s the latest update on the series?

Netflix’s teen drama 13 Reasons Why has sparked controversy since its inception, but that hasn’t stopped audiences from seeing and rooting out Hannah, Clay and their fellow students at Liberty High.

Based on Jay Asher’s book of the same name, the first season initially followed Clay, an introverted high school student who receives a record of tape cassettes from his former crush, Hannah, who died of suicide. During a series of flashbacks, we meet Hannah and are introduced to some other high school students whom she mentions and shames for contributing to her deep and fatal depression.

The following seasons expanded their attention, with episodes devoted to the growing cast of high school students, including Hannah’s rapist Bryce, whose refusal was the main focus of show three.

The show has previously been criticized for including graphics of suicide and rape, such as a brutal scene where the main character is sodomized with a broomstick.

Season four, set to be released on Netflix for a week, has not been without controversy, sparking a passion for (spoiler alert) the traumatic death of a favorite of HIV / AID fans. However, that hasn’t stopped fans from speculating about a possible fifth season – despite assurances from Netflix that the series has officially ended.

13 reasons why come back for season five?

Sadly, Netflix has verified that 13 Reasons Why will not be returning next year, with the fourth season of Liberty High’s final.

The streamer explained in a statement that it was purely a creative decision to end the series after showing four with ‘the graduation of the middle high school cast’ and therefore ‘a natural ending to the show’.

Netflix also released a teaser clip for season four, revealing the 13 reasons cast emotionally completing their closing talk.

The video features Alisha Boe, who plays Jessica Davis, saying in tears, “I will never forget this adventure for the rest of my life, so thank you.”

In May, showrunner Brian Yorkey told Entertainment Weekly that he decided to finish 13 Reasons Why during the filming of Period Two, believing that finishing on the students’ graduation was “ just the logical end point. ”

“When it became clear that we were going to have the opportunity to create more seasons of this, I’m going pretty quickly to a location where it felt like a four-season story,” he explained.

“It felt like taking these grades to their graduation and also spreading them to their next things felt like the logical end point,” he added.

“So for a long time the thought was, if we were so blessed with the opportunity, we would do this for four seasons. So we were definitely going to break the story for season four, we knew this was the end.”

The fourth season landed on Netflix on Friday, June 5, treating enthusiasts to a longer finale of 13 reasons why season 4 exceeded average.

“I’m incredibly happy with our latest episode. I think it’s unique, and it’s super big too,” Brian Yorkey told EW.

“It’s a super big final, so while people aren’t super happy with the ending, they can’t say we were stingy,” he added.
